Eastman received a prestigious award Friday during the annual Arbor Day
Celebration. Michael Henderson, Chief Ranger with the Forestry Commission, presented a new
flag to Mrs. Bea Edge, Eastman City Manager in honor of the 21 years Eastman has been a Tree
City USA with the National Arbor Day Foundation.
“It is a great honor to present this flag to the City of Eastman”, stated
Michael Henderson, Chief Ranger of the Georgia Forestry Commission. “Eastman has the longest
record of this award for the counties I serve ranging from the coast, to the South Carolina
border.”
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day
Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest
Service.
To become a Tree City USA, a community must meet four standards: a tree
board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, an Arbor
Day observance.
