    Georgia #3 in Aerospace Manufacturing Attractiveness

    PriceWaterhouseCooper’s 2018 report ranked Georgia #3 for Aerospace Manufacturing Attractiveness.  The report states, “Companies are attracted to Georgia in part because of its relatively low costs, business-friendly policies, and major international airport”.  Georgia has been in the top 3 for 3 years running.  To read the full report, click here
    Georgia Named #1 State for Business
    Governor Deal recently announced that Georgia has been named the #1 State for Business for the 5th consecutive year by Area Development magazine.  In addition to being named the top state for business, Georgia ranked first among the states for workforce development programs and cooperative and responsive state government.  The full report is available here.
    ABL Space Systems Signs Lease to Begin Operations in Camden County

    ABL Space Systems has signed a lease to begin operations in Camden County, GA at the site of the former St. Mary’s airport.  Camden County is awaiting a decision from the FAA on their proposed Spaceport Camden, and is planning an Innovation and Research Park, at which ABL will be an anchor tenant.

    Air Force Designates Georgia-developed
    GOLauncher1 as X-60A

    The GOLauncher1, a hypersonic flight research vehicle being developed by Georgia-based Generation Orbit Launch Services, Inc. under contract to the Air Force Research Laboratory has been designated by the Air Force as X-60A.  The goal of the X-60A program is to increase the frequency of flight testing while lowering the maturation cost for hypersonic technologies.  The GO1 is an air-dropped liquid rocket that is designed to mature technologies such as scramjet propulsion, high temperature materials, and autonomy.  For more, click here.  

    SBIR Topic Release Sept 24, 2018

    The Department of Defense has published the release of topics for the next round of SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) funding to support small business research. The SBIR program can be a valuable part of any small business plan to bring innovation to the market.  Proposals are due on Oct 24th, 2018. 
    The Center of Innovation for Aerospace is offering free proposal assistance to any Georgia aerospace company wishing to apply.  We can help you determine eligibility, find solicitations that are right for you, connect you with potential partners, and help review proposals prior to submission. If you have any questions or are looking for assistance, contact Kelly Griendling or Gary O’Neill.

    Mapaero Partners with Atlanta Aviation International

    French-based paint company Mapero has signed a distribution agreement with Atlanta Aviation International (AAI).  AAI will be the interior coatings distributor for Mapero in North America with the goal of providing quicker, cheaper turnaround for Mapero’s North American customers.

    B&D Industrial acquires Western Machine Works, Inc. of Tacoma, Washington

    B&D Industrial, an independent distributor and service provider based out of Macon, Georgia, recently announced the acquisition of Western Machine Works, Inc. of Tacoma, Washington.  Machine Works is a machining company providing a full range of services including engineering, welding and fabrication, hydraulics, custom machine parts and field service.

    Robins Air Force Base Cuts Ribbon on New Global Hawk Fuel Tank

    Robins Air Force Base recently unveiled a new fuel tank for the Global Hawk after 18 months of construction.    The tank is designed to hold 12,000 gallons of a specialized fuel with a low freezing point, allowing the Global Hawk to operate at higher altitudes.  The tank also triples the Global Hawk’s fuel capacity.

    Southern Company Drone Program an Industry Leader

    The Southern Company’s Drone Program is gaining recognition as an industry leader in the application of UAS to utilities.  The company reports that they have gained efficiency, increased accuracy in inspections, and improved safety through the application of the technology.  Learn more here

    Applications Open Oct 1, 2018 for Georgia Business Aviation Association 2019 Scholarships

    Georgia Business Aviation Association has Scholarship opportunities available for those students interested in pursuing a Career in Business Aviation.  GBAA also offers several continuing Education opportunities for those working in GA Business Aviation and a member company of GBAA. Award amounts vary based on the degree and program.  The application window opens October 1, 2018 and is open until March 1, 2018.  To learn more and to apply for these awards, visit www.GBAA.org.
    Georgia Tech ranked #1 Preferred Supplier of Aerospace Grads by Aviation Week

    According to Aviation Week Network’s 2018 Workforce Survey, Georgia Tech is the #1 preferred supplier for aerospace graduates.  The preferred suppliers are “institutions that hiring managers turn to when looking to fill critical and high-value jobs.”

    Georgia Tech ranked #2 Aerospace School in US News and World Report Rankings

    The Georgia Tech undergraduate aerospace engineering program has once again taken the #2 spot according to the newest US News and World Report rankings.   In addition, all of Georgia Tech’s undergraduate engineering programs were ranked in the top 5 for their respective disciplines, and the College of Engineering ranked 4th overall.  The graduate aerospace program maintained its #4 ranking.
